LUORAWETLAN
Luorawetlan project is a photographic study of the Extreme Northern territories of Russia. Lying above the Arctic Circle, it is known as «the Far North» and it one of the most unattainable places on Earth. This region has for centuries been inhabited mostly by nomadic communities and associated with resilience and strength of the human spirit. “Luorawetlan” is a term, that Chuckchi - an indigenous people of the Northeast, use to describe a “true man”. Another indigenous group, Nenets, self-designate as “Neney nenetsy”, which also translates as “real people”.
Despite boasting vast natural and mineral resources, these territories remain underexplored, mysterious and enigmatic. It is a place where natural occurrences and the supernatural intertwine: Polar Day and Night, the Northern Lights, glowing halos and other optical phenomena intersect with local mythology, traditions and beliefs. The invisible line of the Arctic Circle runs through these lands binding together its natural beauty with its metaphysical, scientific, industrial power as well as the enduring strength of the human spirit. The project explores the complex phenomenon of the North and the polar region as a unique natural, cultural and spiritual environment.
ЛУОРАВЕТЛАН
Проект Луораветлан – фотографическое исследование уникального пространства Заполярья. Это особая метафизическая зона, наполненная природными феноменами и оптическими явлениями, сильными духом людьми и их историями, передающимися из поколения в поколение. “Луораветлан” – чукотское слово, а “Ненэйненэцьи” – ненецкое. В переводе они означают “настоящий человек”. Крайний Север неслучайно ассоциируется со стойкостью, умением не только противостоять обстоятельствам и стихии, но и c мудростью находиться в гармонии с ними. Это место, где научные достижения и индустриальное освоение соседствуют с природной мощью и древними традициями коренных народов.
Луораветлан – документация жизни за Полярным Кругом – условной чертой, нитью проходящей через всю Арктику и связывающей воедино и предания коренных народов, и ученого на труднодоступной метеостанции, и китобоя у берегов Чукотки.
Проект раскрывает Заполярье как особое культурное и энергетическое пространство, где природное величие этого края соседствует с его научной и индустриальной мощью и силой человеческого духа.
